Military version of the GAZ-3344 has protected fuel tanks and is fitted with NBC protection system for the passengers. Also it has a capability to be fitted with remotely controlled weapon station. The GAZ-3344 is unarmored. The civilian GAZ-3344 is powered by a 4.5-liter Cummins ISB4.5E3 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 185 hp.
It is mated with Allison automatic transmission. However the military version is powered by a Russian 4.4-liter YaMZ-53402-10 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 182 hp. Travelling on hard surface roads this vehicle consumes 50 liters of fuel for 100 km of road. Both front and rear units are fitted with Webasto autonomous heaters.
A 5 t capacity self-recovery winch is proposed as an option. This vehicle can operate in temperature range from -50°C to +40°C.
